Peaceful Gardening Story from Italy

The following video is a bit long, in Italian too, but the videographer translates some phrases into English. I enjoyed the tour of the Italian artisanג€™s workshop and then we enter the manג€™s garden, with a fantastic view of the countryside, quaint sculptures and a stone pathway. The manג€™s garden is not big into growing food, more of a peaceful and restorative place. Enjoy.

So those of you who covered your warm weather plants, and tomato plants with plastic for the colder weather, consider exposing them to the sun during the day and covering up at night when the temperature drops. The tomato plants will thank you for it.

3 Summer Weight Loss Ideas – in your Garden

Summer weight loss is on everyone’s mind now, I know its on mine. In fact its been on my mind for awhile now, but now more than ever. I walk past those store windows and gasp as I see that bellowing belly, yikes.

Ok what are my quick and dirty summer weight loss ideas for you, that you can do in the comfort of your garden, if you have one. If you don’t have one, go to the local park and do them, except the nude garden workout of coarse.

  1. Pick some weeds and clean up the garden. 5-10 minutes/week
  2. Do some simple stretching and exercises on the grass. 5-10 min/week.
  3. Play with the dog or kids or grandkids. Play catch or kick a ball.

Ok, that sounded really easy, sure. It is. Weight loss is a mind over matter issue. Decide and it will be so, as long as your mouth is listening ;)

Now for our beauty in the bikini, who doesn’t really need to loose…

Cigarttte Butts helps make Organic Pesticide

You may want to try this home made organic pesticide if you see little critters eating your fine organic plants.

First collect lots of old cigarette butts and toss them into a pot of water which is brought to a boil. Then add lots of crushed garlic and misc spices and continue to boil for five minutes or so. This is best done outside on a camping stove since the mixture really stinks. After the mess cools a bit, strain it through a sive or colander. Best to use old pots and utensils since you donג€™t want to contaminate your food with this mixture.

Hay, did you know? Hay is great Garden Mulch

Now that the rains seem to be coming, this is an excellent time to add more mulch to your garden. The rains accelerate the decomposition of the mulch, adding valuable topsoil. For those of you further north, an extra layer of mulch also helps extend the growing season of the summer crops.

Free Organic, Liquid Fertilizer – but don’t piss in the garden…

Organic liquid fertilizer for the garden, lovely, and it just so happens that urine is a perfect nitrogen source, and its free! I would not recommend that you go pissing around in the garden though. Not only might your neighbors report you to neighborhood watch, this is not really the proper method of applying the urine to the garden.

Latest Gardening Tips Poll – Watering Results

The results are in. With about 57 readers answering our latest poll question: the best time to water the lawn?

The overwhelming majority of respondents answered: early in the morning, whereas second place was: depends on the season.

Personally, I don’t have a lawn, but in another post I promise to write about this in more details.

Drinking Beer in the Garden Goofs & Cameron Diaz in Vegas

Have you ever drank beer in the garden? I know I have. In fact, the garden is probably one of the most relaxing places I know of to have a beer. If you have a chain saw laying around, you could try opening your beer like the guy in this video… DON’T…just kidding. Or you could open your beer like Cameron Diaz did in the movie: “what happen’s in vegas”. Ahston Kutchner is a goof, and and Cameron Diaz isn’t bad either.

Watering House Plants – Tomato Plants ג€“ When is the Best Time?

ג€œMy plants always dieג€, is the common complaint of too many apartment dwellers. Listen carefully: plants die if they are watered too much or too little. So how are you to know? ג€œI was told to water every 5 daysג€, cries Alice, who is beginning to feel that her love life is related to her plants demise.

Ok, listen and rememberג€¦ it doesnג€™t matter if you water in the morning or at night, 2x/week or whatever else the guy at the nursery told you about that lovely new Petunia you just boughtג€¦

Water your house plants when the soil feels dry, simple. Really. Get your finger dirty, get to know your plants intimately. While youג€™re at it, massage the leaves too, get the dust off them so they can breathe. Sing to them. Donג€™t follow a schedule, or else you might kill your precious house plants once again.

The real question shouldnג€™t be, how often or when you should water your house plantsג€¦ the real question should be, how often should you feel the soil? Thatג€™s entirely up to you, but Iג€™d recommend 2x/week. If the soil feels moist, donג€™t water, simple. Of coarse, succulents, like cactus is different; you could probably check 1x/week or maybe longer.
