Snake Bites – How to Prevent Snake Bites
By DanP | June 30, 2008
This Spring has seen a rash of snake bites in my area, from infants to mothers and farm workers. What are some simple tips for avoiding snake bites, as it is not uncommon to suffer a poisonous bite and even a snake bite fatality!
- Common Sense above all else. After hearing about people getting bitten by a snake in the face… when exploring, avoid putting your hands, or face into dark without first investigating carefully with a long stick.
- Wear proper shoes – not sandals or barefoot when walking in nature.
- Place your sleeping bag and tents in a cleared area and use mosquito netting provide a barrier. Avoid brush areas, tall grass, or large rocks where snakes may live.
- Tread Carefully – Lastly be cognizant. Look where you step.
