By DanP | May 2, 2008

If you love tomatoes as much as I do, you probably want to grow your own? I know I do; in fact, 90% of gardening enthusiasts grow tomatoes in their garden. Try some of these tomato growing tips for more tasty succulent tomatoes.

If you are growing tomatoes from seed, give the tomatoe seedlings enough room to expand. Transplant the seedlings when they get their first leaves to small pots.
“A good gardener always plants 3 seeds - one for the bugs, one for the weather and one for himself.” - Leo Aikman

Tomato plants need strong stems providing resistance to a strong wind. Blow your young seedlings with an artificial breeze about 10 minutes a day with a home fan!

Once your tomatoe plants are growing tall, about 3 feet, remove the leaves from the bottom third of the stem, these leaves are the first to develop fungus, as they get less sun and are more exposed to soil contaminants.

Water generously and regularly during the initial growth period. When the fruit begins to ripen, you man water less, as this encourages higher sugar concentration, but don’t let them wilt.
