Testing Hose Reels for Sprinkler Coverage

By admin | January 9, 2007

There are many types of hose reels on the market with an increasing number of sprinkler attachments, each spreads water at a different rate. The best way to test the quality of yours is to determine where the hose reel and sprinkler deposits the most water. This way you will know where best to place it in order to achieve the desired coverage.

To test the water deposit pattern, turn on the hose reel and note how far the sprinkler spray reaches.

Next, set up a number of buckets evenly across the whole area covered by the sprinkler. Turn on the hose reel again, and let it run for while.

Turn off the sprinkler and measure the amount of water in each bucket for a clear indication of the maximum, minimum, and relative amounts of water reaching each area within the distribution pattern. Use this information to optimize irrigation.
