I need a good quality garden hose reels… The perennial (excuse the pun) question for any amateur gardener.
Yes you do, and you need a simple to use, high quality, self straightening auto rewinding one at that ! So where do you start?
Self straightening hose reels do exist, but does it work? I recently went shopping at a large national home goods retailer and saw a hose that claimed to be a self straightening hose. How can a hose be a self straightening hose? I’m not quite sure of the science behind the self straightening hose. A self straightening hose is not like a science fiction monster that has a mind of its own and will coil back up nicely like a giant snake from the movies. That being said, I would not bring a self straightening hose onto an airplane just in case.
Self Straightening Hose Test
I decided to purchase the self straightening hose and test it out for myself. Test number one involved giving my dog a bath. The dog hates water and will run all over the yard while I try to wash him. After chasing the dog in circles around the yard and finally getting him clean, the hose never kinked and lived up to its self straightening hose name. Test number two involved tying the hose into as many knots as I could and then trying to pull it straight with out untangling it. Test number two was also a complete success the hose righted itself without too much pulling force from me.
