Winter Care for Indoor Plants
By admin | November 20, 2006
Oftentimes people take for granted that the climate is uniform throughout all our indoor space. Offices and homes are often controlled by a single thermostat we therefore assume the building is efficiently climate controlled. Wrong. Rooms may feel the same but temperatures, humidity now to mention air chemicals vary greatly from room to room and floor to floor. This may concern only a few of us, usually those of us who as well as (or instead of) an outdoor garden we dab our green fingers to indoor plants.
Indoor temperatures can vary wildly, especially during the winter depending on wall and window insulations.
During the winter, cold is not the only problem, oftentimes the heat can be a greater concern for indoor plants. Heat from heating vents can cause heat stress t indoor plants, turning leaves yellow and you may also find tips and edges of leaves becoming dry. Panic can cause people to over water their plants often causing a faster health decay. Responsible watering using a high quality indoor hose reel is the key. Sometimes the only remedy for the cold and hot problem is simple:
Relocate the plant!!!
In general, the best advice is to try and eliminate wild swings in indoor climate, monitor plants for any significant changes on both leaves and roots. During the winter season you should also keep one more item in mind. Plants like water on the soil and roots. So ensure your on hand (or on tap) to feed your green leaved friends.
