Gardening Tips for Hose Reels

By admin | November 9, 2006

It might be a cold, blustery winter, and you may be comfortable in the house with the heating on, but the Hose Reels still need care.

Its reaching that time of year where the time spent in the garden is reduced to a bare minimum and the time indoors keeping warm and dry are at a maximum. So in those last few green fingered visits to the great cold outdoors, there are some crucial things to remember to avoid heartache in the new year.

First, turn the soil to loosen it before the contracting frost sets in and it hardens around the roots of your favorite plants.

Secondly, ensure any final weeding is done, there are some robust flora that will take advantage of the gardeners hibernation during the winter and strangle the soils nutrients.

Thirdly and finally, ensure all your valuable gardening equipment is packed up and stored in a dry place. Especially your Hose Reels, whilst many people take advantage of spring sales to buy a new one, your best bet is to keep the old one in the best possible condition. This means winding it, covering it and storing it with care.

Over the next few weeks I’ll post more tips during the winter and some guidlines for preparing for the new year, including beginning seeding inside.
