Planning Your Garden for Next Year
By admin | September 17, 2006
As the summer draws to a close and the hard work of the season bears its fruits and flowers, now is the time to begin planning for next year.
There is a concept called ‘Seed Saving’ which is almost as old as gardening itself. Its the basic premise that what you like from this year can be recreated for next. Save seeds from your favourite (and most successfull) plantations and store them for the following season.
You should also remember that as trees and plants mature each year so do their seeding potential, you will likely be more successful in planting a rose bush from a successful plant that from buying new seeds or cuttings. And you will also be safe inthe knowledge of what the new plant will offer.
Basically we all save seeds because if we have a plant we love and we want to grow again!!
Storing your seeds:
- Make sure they are dry
- Store in a paper envelope
- Place in an airtight container
- Store in a cool, dark, dry environment
