Hose Reel
By admin | June 12, 2006
Thankyou to an ‘avid’ reader to sent in this following heartwarming e-letter:
Last summer in (not so) sunny England I was tending to my garden which has always been a source of great fulfilment regardless of the weather. I have a huge flower garden along with over 200 container plants. One of the chores I hate the most is dragging out my hose from the shed, attaching it to the garden tap and then afterwards having to rewind over 100 feet of hose back into its reel. To be honest I rarely wind it back, preferring to gather up the flexible pipe and haul it back inside.
On a particularly chilly day I slipped as I was carrying the hose and fell. Fortunately I suffered only minor bruising and cuts as I landed softly but painfully into my prized rose bush. I vowed to do something about this hose problem!
A friend told me about automatic rewinding hose reels which are life-saving gadgets in more ways than one. I immediately purchased a ReelSmart water powered hose reel from a company called Hydro. Now when I am done watering, I just leave the water switched on and pull the lever. Like magic it rewinds itself.
An additional benefit of rewinding hose reels is the unit doubles up as a hose hanger. A couple of quick holes drilled into the wall next to the tap and hey presto the hose is hung and a daily summer back breaking chore of carrying a hefty weight is removed from my life. The hose reel came with the option to mount on ground or wall and for a DIY-phobe like myself simple instructions and all the fixings were included.
I did my research, there are a number of hose reel hangers available; some are simple hideaway hoses that cleverly conceal the green tubes, whilst others are open units that are simply hose reels. The automatic rewinding hose reel truly is a life saver, effortless and tidy. There are lots of styles to choose from. This was the most traumatic part of my purchase, did I simply want a hose hanger to save carrying, did I want a hose hideaway to ensure my garden looked pristine at every corner, or did I want both?
Now I look forward to gardening this year without the fear of slipping on a rose bush or slipping a disc. As a keen gardener in the UK time is of the essence, there’s not a lot of bright sunny and warm days to enjoy the task, most of the time it’s a quick run out to prune, plant and weed before the clouds appear and you need to dash for cover
Me and my automatic hose reel. Inseparable from here on out.
