Gardening with Arthritis

By admin | June 15, 2006

An interesting article in the SuburbanChicagoNews.com reviewed a number of gardening tools and gadgets for those of us with a touch of arthritis (excuse the pun).

I remember when my father was still able to meander around the garden picking some weeds and planting the odd seed. He would always complain of this tool and that tool, and that if only someone could invent some gardening gadgets (specifically an easy wind hose reel) that would be easy on his knees and wrists then he’d be able to continue gardening for years. Unfortunately it never happend, but now it has.

The Naperville Sun (part of Chicago Sun Group) covers a variety of gardening tools, some long handed, most of them ergonomic and energy saving.

Here’s what they had to say about the handy hydro hose reel:

” Watering: Carrying water or handling a heavy, awkward hose can be difficult for any gardener. Some labour saving watering products to consider are soaker or drip hoses that are snaked throughout the garde, coil hoses for the patio or small areas, a hose caddy and reel for easy transport, or a self winding hose chest(see www.hydro-industries.com) that puts itself away automatically. There are also a varierty of ergonomic designs that are lightweight, easy to grip and reach those hard to get plants.”

Now thats what we call good garden watering advice. So in 2006 whether you are young anf full of vitality or (like some of us) mature and with aching limbs, there is no excuse for not getting out into your garden to tend your soil and water your plants.
