Garden Watering Tips

As summer approached ever nearer with the warming spring air and the gentle browning and curling your prized leaves, panic begins to set it. Those perennial annual questions appear in your mind:

How much to water the garden?
How often to water the garden?

We’ve put together a brief tip list of how best to water your garden whilst maintaining care for the environment and of course the usual drought warnings.

As a general rule, most lawns require about one inch of water per week from rain or sprinkling. The problem though is making this measurement, how long should the water be left on and what strength to equal one inch?. Generally it does depends on your water pressure and the type of sprinkler you choose find out more by exploring the user guide or contacting the manufacturer of your hose reel.

A few Garden Watering Tips to keep in mind:

1. It’s best to water early in the day. You won’t waste water through evaporation, and watering at night puts your lawn at risk for developing mildew and fungus disease.

2. Don’t give your lawn a light sprinkling. This will encourage the growth of unwanted shallow roots that do your plants no good. Light sprinklings may not reach the soil, depending on how little you water.

3. During dry spells or droughts, pay attention to watering restrictions.

4. Water deeply and infrequently (1/2″ twice a week is enough).

5. Make sure you have a good quality hose reel that doesn’t leak.

We’ll post more tips here as the summer draws near.
